Capitol Hill Group Ministry

Celebrating over 40 years as a community based non-profit, Capitol Hill Group Ministry (CHGM) embodies a mission that reflects our deep connection to community and all who live in it. CHGM brings together neighbors, congregations of all faiths and organizations in our community to celebrate a shared commitment to social justice.

Together we put faith into action to empower and provide hope for families and individuals who are homeless or in crisis that they may lead healthy, fulfilling and productive lives.

Services for Homeless Families:

Congregation-Based Shelter Project provides emergency shelter for 8-10 families in the District every night of the year. CHGM engages congregations to provide overnight hospitality for one or two families. Families work with CHGM staff to move from crisis to stability and to secure education, training, employment, housing and childcare, so they can move on to transitional or permanent housing. (202-544-3150)

Shirley’s Place Day Hospitality Center, located at 1338 G Street, SE, is open weekdays from 7:00am-6:00pm & weekends from 9:00am – 6:00pm for families in crisis. The Center offers a place for workshops, respite, light meals, and case management. (202-544-3150)

CHGM’s Shelter Plus Care program provides comprehensive support services for formerly homeless families living in permanent supportive housing. (202-543-5822)
